Signs and symptoms of blocked fallopian tubes and Ayurvedic treatment

There are several reasons due to which a woman cannot conceive. One of them is blocked fallopian tubes. Blocked fallopian tubes cause infertility, not in all cases. If one tube is blocked and the other is functioning well, conception can still find its way via the other tube. But in some cases, both the tubes can get blocked and cause difficulties in pregnancy.

Fallopian Tubes and Their Role In Pregnancy

Fallopian tubes are part of the female reproductive system. These two thin tubes connect the uterus and ovaries. Eggs are produced in ovaries but fertilized egg grows in the uterus. And the fallopian tubes play a vital role in delivering them to the uterus from the ovary. It is said that the egg (ovum) makes it travel from the ovary to the uterus in around five days.

There are people who think that fertilization occurs in the uterus or ovaries. But it is not so. It actually occurs when a sperm cell combines with an egg (ovum) in the fallopian tubes. Yes, it happens in the fallopian tubes.

Blocked Fallopian Tubes and Infertility

Blockage in fallopian tube is also called tubal blockage. If the tubes are blocked, the egg fails to reach the uterus and sperm also fails to reach the egg in the tube. Because of this, conception does not happen successfully. And this becomes the reason for infertility.

Causes of blocked fallopian tubes

A few causes are:

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Infections transmitted through sexual intercourse may also be responsible for blocking the fallopian tubes. Gonorrhea and Chlamydia are common infections that could harm the fallopian tubes.

Ectopic pregnancy. When the embryo sticks outside the uterus, this is called an ectopic pregnancy. Signs and symptoms may include abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding. Pain could be sharp, dull or cramp-like.

Endometriosis.  It is when endometrial-like tissues begin to build up in other places like the fallopian tubes, ovaries and along the pelvis. These tissues could block the fallopian tubes.

Pelvic adhesions.  Injury, surgery or infection can bring forth scarred tissues. Scarred tissues can stick to the internal organs and affect them. The area that can be affected are:

  • Fallopian tubes
  • Intestines
  • Uterus
  • Bladder
  • Ovaries

Fibroids.  They are growths of tissues in or around the uterus and can vary in size. They are non-cancerous. In some cases, fibroids can block the fallopian tubes, which can create difficulties in pregnancy.

Symptoms of Blockage in Fallopian Tube

It is unfortunate that the blocked fallopian tubes’ symptoms are not perceptible. Usually they are no symptoms. Many women get to know about their blocked fallopian tubes after going through tests because of their infertility.

But in very few cases, women can feel a regular pain in the abdomen area. This symptom is mostly present in Hydrosalpinx. In Hydrosalpinx, a watery fluid gets collected in the fallopian tube and blocks it.

Tubal Blockage Allopathic Treatment

  • Fallopian tube recanalization (FTR)

FTR is done to reopen the blocked tubes. It is done without surgery and cuts. It is performed by keeping the vagina open using a speculum and then a cathedral or small plastic tube is inserted into the tube through the cervix. A contrast liquid and X-ray are used to detect the blockage. Another smaller catheter is inserted to remove the blockage.

  • Surgical treatment

If there is a blockage only in one tube, there are still fine chances of pregnancy to take place through the other tube. But if both are blocked, the doctor may suggest a surgical treatment to open both the tubes.

Tubal Blockage Ayurvedic Treatment
