Food for male infertility

There are men who despite of having repeated unprotected sexual intercourse are not able to get the good news. It is common for men to doubt women for not being able to conceive. It is time for you to give yourself a close watch. The cause of not being able to conceive might be you and not your wife.

It is observed that 40% of cases are male infertility, amongst the couples visiting infertility specialist. The inability of a man to produce healthy sperms for a woman to get pregnant is called male infertility. The cause of infertility may be low sperm count, poor motility, morphology etc.  

Ayurveda explains certain home remedies and treatment of male infertility in “Vajikarana” chapter. The chapter deals with herbs, lifestyle and diet management to enhance the fertility in men. Amongst the 7 dhatus, shukra dhatu helps in sperm production. Thus if shukra dhatu is well nourished it results in healthy sperms.

CAUSES FOR MALE INFERTILITY IN AYURVEDA

1)  Congenital abnormalities such as defect in the gametes leads to abnormalities in reproductive system.

2)  Shukra dosha or defect in sperms may be due to food factor, behavioral factor and psychological factors.

3)   Loss of libido.

HOME REMEDIES IN AYURVEDA FOR MALE INFERTILITY

–  Pumpkin seeds have been used for ages for treating infertility in males. Pumpkin seed boiled in a water when taken on regular basis is effective

–  4-5 cloves of raw garlic is beneficial in treating male infertility and also strengthens the male reproductive system.

–   Onion is one of the most effective and easiest cure for infertility. 

–   Consuming roots of lady finger in the form of powder strengthens the reproductive system and enhances fertility in males. 

–   Exercise in routine and sleep well. Exercise helps you maintain an ideal weight as over and under weight results in hormonal imbalance.

–    Quit smoking: it is observed that people who smoke have low sperm quality.

–    Quit alcohol as it decreases the sperm production.

–    Avoid certain medications such as anti- depressant, anti-inflammatories etc

–    Consume more anti oxidant food and get enough of vitamin D, folate and zinc.

Diet plays a critical role and is the most important home remedies for male infertility. Diet must be rich in ghee, milk, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, fresh organic fruits and vegetables, plant source proteins, spices such as ajwain- turmeric- cumin etc is good for male infertility. 

Avoid food that contains trans fats, preservatives and chemical based foods.
