Fertility Definition
The Latin root word of fertility is fertilis which means fruitful or bearing in plenty from ‘ferre’ which means ‘to bear’. Fertility is the ability to conceive, to become pregnant, and to give birth to children through normal sex life.
What is the difference between fertility and infertility?
The difference between fertility and infertility is simple. Fertility is the quality of being fertile. A fertile female or male is able to produce offspring.
An infertile female or male is not able to give birth. An infertile woman will not either become pregnant or carry the pregnancy to its full term. And an infertile man won’t be able to impregnate a woman.
Conception may take time and several attempts; it is not infertility. If a woman is younger than 35 and has not had any conception till one year of frequent, unprotected sex, she or her partner may be infertile. In this case, both partners should consult the doctor to find out who has infertility issues so that the doctor can give the right treatment to the infertile partner.
One must not feel ashamed of one’s infertility issues. There are various treatment options available nowadays. Ayurvedic fertility treatment is also effectively growing nowadays as Ayurveda can also treat infertility in its natural ways. And this could also be the reason for people’s preference for ayurvedic treatment over allopathic treatment.

Causes of infertility in females
A few factors that could be responsible for infertility in females are:
- Pelvic adhesions. Bands of scar tissues can cause pelvic adhesions. These adhesions can take place due to pelvic surgery, pelvic infection, appendicitis or endometriosis.
- Fallopian tube damage or blockage. Fallopian tube blockage is also a common cause of infertility in women. The blockage or damage in the fallopian tube can prevent the egg from entering the uterus. It can also prevent sperm from penetrating the egg cell in the fallopian tube.
- Endometriosis. Endometrial-like tissues build up outside the uterus. These tissues can also develop in or around the ovaries or the fallopian tubes, and they may also break and bleed just like the tissue of the endometrium. Because of their blood, inflammation may also take place.
- Ovulation disorders. Ovulation disorders may affect the production or release of the eggs. Some of the causes of these disorders are ovarian cysts, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), primary ovarian failure (POF) and resistant ovarian syndrome.
- Cervical or uterine abnormalities. Infertility could also be caused by the abnormalities of the uterus and the cervix including the polyps in the uterus.
- Early menopause. Early menopause can also cause infertility. In menopause, the menstrual cycles end, and the ovaries stop functioning. Some women have menopause around the age of 40, but to some women, it can happen earlier than that. The causes of early menopause are often unknown.
