Hydrosalpinx and its treatment by an Ayurvedic doctor – Dr Chanchal Sharma
What is Hydrosalpinx?
When a fallopian tube is filled with fluid and becomes blocked, this condition is called Hydrosalpinx. Because of the fluid in the tube, the egg fails to reach the uterus. And sperm may also fail to reach the egg in the tube. These issues cause infertility.
Being only one tube blocked, there is still a possibility of pregnancy from the other tube. But if Hydrosalpinx has blocked both the tubes, there’s almost no possibility of a natural conception.
Hydrosalpinx symptoms
Hydrosalpinx is asymptomatic. But in some cases, patients complain of pelvic or abdominal pain. Because of its asymptomatic nature, many cases go undetected. People may find out about it when they consult a doctor because of their infertility issues caused by it.

Hydrosalpinx causes
The common cause of Hydrosalpinx is said to be a long, untreated infection in the fallopian tube. Because of the infection, the tube becomes filled with fluid. Other causes that may also be held responsible for this condition are:
- Scarred appendicitis
- Endometriosis
- Fibroids
- Sexually
- Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)
- Abdominal surgery
- Injury
The inflammation or the healing process may also damage the finger-like projections that extend from the end of the tubes to the ovaries. These finger-like projections are called fimbriae that collect eggs from the ovaries. Due to the infection or other reasons, fimbriae may get fused together and block the tube.
Diagnosis of Hydrosalpinx
Following tests can be done for its diagnosis.
- An ultrasound
- Laparoscopy
- A sonohysterosalpingography
- Hysterosalpingogram (HSG)
- An MRI

Hydrosalpinx treatment
In the modern medicinal system, surgery is the most common treatment for Hydrosalpinx. In severe cases, the doctor suggests that you get the tube removed completely. If repairing the tube seems the best option, the surgeon will perform keyhole surgery to remove the fluid from the tube.
If there is a risk or no possibility of a natural pregnancy, the doctor may suggest IVF pregnancy. In IVF pregnancy, the patient’s eggs are taken out and fertilized in a laboratory. Once fertilized, the egg is implanted in the uterus for its further growth. Eggs and/or sperm can also be received from a donor for in-vitro fertilization.
IVF is not always successful and also contains risks of infection and multiple pregnancies. An Ayurvedic doctor can also treat Hydrosalpinx.
About Ayurveda and its treatment for Hydrosalpinx
The word ‘Ayurveda’ is a combination of two words, ayus and veda. The word ‘ayus’ stands for longevity and the word ‘veda’ for knowledge. Ayurveda is a science of longevity. It is an ancient medicinal system with its roots in the Indian subcontinent.
Modern knowledge of Ayurveda is said to be based on Brhattrayi (the great triads) that consists of Sushurta Samhita, Charak Samhita and Ashtanga Hridaya. Ayurveda therapies include special diets, herbs as medicines, massage, enemas, laxatives, medicated oils, yoga and meditation.
An Ayurvedic doctor not only treats diseases and illnesses but can also guide people to live healthy and long lives. Ayurveda contains knowledge of various herbs and therapies that can be used to enhance strength, masculinity, glow, immunity and fertility. Most of the herbs are affordable and easily available. As these herbs are natural, they have little or no side-effects; although, exceptions can be found.
As per the Ayurvedic belief, the body is made of five elements namely earth, air, fire, water and ether (space). And cleansing of these five elements is called ‘Bhuta Shuddhi’. Bhuta Shuddhi provides longevity and healthy to the body. The different combinations of these five elements are defined as three doshas namely kapha, vata and pitta.

You may have noticed that some people like summer more than winter, and some like sweets more than others. It is because every body is not the same. Doshas have a tendency to fluctuate and when they go out of balance, the body may have some problem or catch an illness.
Every person has these three doshas but one is stronger than the rest two. Vata is based on space and air, and is generally defined as rough, dry and cold.
Kapha consists of water and earth and is generally defined as soft, cold, heavy and steady. Pitta is based on water and fire and is described as sharp, oily, hot and mobile. Doshas affect not only the physical aspects but also the mental aspects of a person.
Ayurveda is full of the wisdom of herbal medicines, therapies, body types (doshas), yoga and meditation. There are several instances where Ayurvedic doctors successfully treated those patients that the allopathy could not.
Ayurvedic doctors also treat blocked fallopian tubes, Hydrosalpinx, infertility, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), PCOS, fibroids, endometriosis and more. One such doctor is Dr Chanchal Sharma.
